Each tile has its own unique characteristic and should be chosen depending upon the requirement.

In fact you may go giddy at the prospect of making a choice.

Should you go in for a tiled look of the house or not is a very important question which needs to be given some thought.

Tiles definitely have an edge over carpeted, cemented or mosaic floors .They increase the show of the surface, can be colour coordinated with the décor of the house, brighten up the house and, most importantly, are easy to clean and stain free. But the cons of having tiled surfaces also exist. Tiles can become very slippery if not kept clean and dry. This is a problem if you have small children running around or elderly people in the house because slipping on tiles is a hazard. But once you have made up your mind about going in for the tiled look, the next question that comes to mind is –how to go about it, whether or not you are employing a contractor for the job.

A few precautions should be taken before and during tiling to ensure they don’t come loose and to avoid any possible accidents in the future. For areas which could possibly be wet quite often, unglazed tiles are a better option as they are less slippery when wet. The size of the surface should be compared to the size of the tiles to make sure only whole tiles cover the entire place (broken or cut tiles look bad). Making sure the mortar is cleaned off the face of the tile before it dries will go a long way in ensuring that the beauty of the tile remains intact. Don’t install slate tile flooring on a wet surface because trapped moisture is something which must be avoided at any cost.

A beautiful house is on everyone’s wish list and with a little bit of care, your house could be the cause of envy of your neighbours and friends.
