If they ever remake “The Graduate”, the Dustin Hoffman movie classic from the sixties, the poolside conversation between Benjamin Braddock and one of his parents’ friends might go something like this:
Guest
So, Benjamin, now that you’ve graduated, what are you going to do with your life?
Ben
I really don’t really, sir. I haven’t thought about it very much.

I’ve got two words for you. Polywood chairs.
Polywood is the “plastic” of the twenty first century and polywood chairs might be the greatest advancement in outdoor furniture since the first Adirondack chair was made more than one hundred years ago.
What Is Polywood?
Polywood is manmade lumber that is crafted from recycled plastic. It is polyethylene that has been shaped to look like wood.
The manufacturing process takes items like milk jugs and other debris that was once destined to overburden our landfills, and transforms them into High Density Poly Etheline (HDPE). The finished product is lumber that looks like either natural or painted wood.
One of the great things about polywood is that it is maintenance free and built to last a lifetime. It’s designed to withstand climates that range from those with the coldest winters to the hottest summers. Wherever you use this furniture – whether it’s in the dry, arid southwest United States, or by a seaside villa anywhere in the world, it will not crack, warp, rot, or splinter.
Polywood chairs will not absorb any moisture. Because polywood is compounded with permanent, ultra violet stabilized colors, there is absolutely no need to ever repaint or stain your furniture. Nor will you ever have to waterproof, strip, or resurface it. It is designed to be maintenance free and will easily be enjoyed for many, many years.
Polywood lumber is so realistic that standard woodworking tools and hardware are used to construct the furniture it is built with. You won’t find any adhesives being used in polywood construction.
Plastic chairs are terrific for the great outdoors. That is, until they break or you have to fish them out of your swimming pool after a storm.
Unlike less expensive plastic patio furniture, plywood chairs are strong and durable. They are built to last a lifetime. And because polywood lumber is dense your furniture will not blow around in the wind.
Polywood is amazingly realistic looking. It really does look like wood, not plastic.
When people go shopping for polywood chairs they find that they cost a bit more than plastic chairs. Because they look like “the real thing” you might want to consider polywood chairs as an investment similar to buying teak or cedar furniture. Also, because they are designed to last and are virtually maintenance free, over the course of time people who bought polywood furniture have found that they got a mighty big bang for their buck.
