How to Speed Clean your Bathroom in Five Steps

Monday, April 20th, 2009

by Edwin Sproat
Whether you are sharing your bathroom with someone else or using it alone, you have to make sure that you keep it clean and organized. It is tough to keep the area in order because of the many items you have there. You have the toiletries and other bathroom supplies. You also have towels and bathrobes in the cabinets. Plus, we have the toothbrushes and other personal items on the countertop.

It is important to organize our bathroom because it is where we tidy up ourselves. The toothbrush is an example. We place it directly in our mouth. Who knows how many times it fell on the floor? Simple rinsing will not remove the bacteria that could be lurking there. To prevent this, we have to be certain that the different holders in our bathroom are able to secure our stuff.

Below are some of the other simple tips that will help keep your bathroom organized:

1. Remove the things from the countertop that you do not frequently use. The different items you place there make it look cluttered. You have bottles of shampoo, glasses, lotions, oils, perfumes, make up, and the like. Remove those that you do not use all the time, you can leave two of your favorite perfumes, one bottle of lotion and a shampoo. Removing some of the items will also make your bathroom look more inviting. You will appreciate your bathroom wall mirrors better because you got rid of the distractions.

2. If you are sharing the bathroom with someone else, use color-coded containers. This makes sure that you will not be interchanging items with your sibling or with whom anyone you are sharing the bathroom with. This will also make organization easier. It is like giving the other person a separate space.

3. Provide storage for the bathroom cleaning supply. It would be great if there were an area in the bathroom that could hold your cleaning supplies. This will make cleaning fast and easier. If you want to wipe the mirror, you can easily reach for the rag. If you noticed that the bowl needs some cleaning, you can easily grab the cleaning tools. Just make sure that it is out of your kids reach.

4. Check the drawers regularly and segregate the contents. The drawers are very useful storage but often neglected. Use it instead of leaving all your things on the countertop. Segregate the items you are going to place there as well. You can place your combs and brushes in one drawer, and your make up kits and powder in another.

5. Throw away empty containers right away. Do not place them on the bathroom wall paneling either. This will prevent clutter from building up. Throwing empty ones will make room for new bottles.
Having an organized bathroom will make your daily trip there easier. Cleaning becomes a breeze and you do not have to scout through your things everyday because you know exactly where your things are.

Storage Units – The Convenient Solution To Clutter

Monday, April 20th, 2009

by Shaun Parker
Self storage is becoming more and more popular as people catch on to the convenience and relatively small costs involved in hiring your own storage units for whatever needs you may have.

We’ve all been there before, you are redecorating your dining room, and I’m not talking about a lick of paint, I mean doing the job properly: re-plastering the walls, rubbing down the coving, applying base coats, then applying that lick of paint. Then you’ve got the wood flooring to lay… It can be a lengthy process and add to that the headache of trying to figure out where to safely store your furniture…

Self storage centres are the cost effective way to solve these issues, and are the most convenient way of safely storing your furniture when redecorating your house, especially as most household garages are cluttered with all sorts of junk, if they aren’t already storing the car, bikes, washing machine, chest freezer, tool box, golf clubs and the old snooker table.

If you’re thinking of employing the services of self storage, look out for special offers such as free van hire, and more importantly, take advantage of the expertise of those working in storage as, believe it or not they can save you money.

Many people select a storage unit that is too big as they decline the opinions of those in the know – estimating the size of the storage units to suit you isn’t as easy as it may seem as there are many factors that you need to take into account, such as: whether your furniture or belonging are stackable (if they are, this can save vast amounts of space), how manoeuvrable your storage items are, and the factor that most people don’t think of, what access you will need in your storage units, i.e. you will need to leave a walkway for larger storage units in order to gain access to the back of the unit.

Storage centres cater for all with storage units come in many different sizes, ranging from 25 square foot through to 250 square foot. Most storage centre websites have a size estimator which can give you a rough idea of the size of the storage units that you will need, but it’s always best to contact a centre directly where they can give you more detailed advice.

You can gain 24 hour access to your storage units also as you will be the sole keyholder so you don’t have to plan any moving of furniture that will be time consuming around storage centre opening times, which also adds to the convenience.

Self storage centres are also a cost effective way for businesses to store possessions that are cluttering the office and are a cheaper and more expedient alternative to leasing, or even investing in, storage sites, buildings or office space purely for storing dead files etc.

And with many self storage centres across the UK, you will be able to gain easy access, with large carparks and loading areas, an important factor when transporting heavy, cumbersome furniture. Plus having your own storage units, with your own key offers you that peace of mind that, barring any natural disasters – of which your goods will be covered by insurance, your possessions will be safe, secure and available to you whenever you need them.
